A new ichneumon?

Found this evening at the front door of The Firs this Ophion obscuratus is identified by it's stripy thorax and distinctive stigma pattern. Anyone out there unhappy with this diagnosis?

A cluster of Heralds

A nice find today at Holme along with Agonopterix yeatiana. Last night also saw the first dotted border and March moth's of the year.

Off Patch: at LWT Willow Tree Fen

Yesterday a trip to Spalding and beyond to see the long-staying bluethroat, and a very recently created  wetland. Very impressive site looks like they will have fun managing the rush! Also managed to see a nice flock of 24 white-fronts and a variety of wildfowl especially nice numbers of shoveler. Although it didn't feel especially mild (slightly under-dressed), the coot were extremely vocal sorting out territories. Great site will visit again.

A new hoverfly for the blog probably for Holme

11th February 2017

Been going through some old photo's and found this for Holme on the evening of 22nd July 2005 Sericomyia silentis, a species more likely to found in acidic wetlands (have seen it at NWT Roydon Common), but can apparently wander. Nectaring at the front of The Firs on a warm sunny evening.
